''Hello
everybody ! My name is Aitana and my
friend Ilyas has asked to me if I want to explain my Erasmus experience, and
for me it is a pleasure J
Why Erasmus ?
If I
remember well, I have always wanted to do an Erasmus year. Before starting my
degree I wanted to travel and study abroad Spain.
So in my
second year of Nursing I applied for my Erasmus. I could choose between:
Finland, Norway and Romania as English studies, Belgium as French studies,
Italy as Italian studies or Portugal as Portuguese. I was focused in my
English, because on the one hand , like everybody know English is the most important language, and
because on the other hand, I have absolutely no doubt that I want to work in UK
or in United Arab Emirates. So I had to learn English ( … andI have to still
learn) !
Why Romania ?
Well,
everybody thought I was crazy. Romania? But it is poor and full of gypsy, my
family, my friends and my mates used to say. However I was talking with my
faculty and Erasmus student and people who come to Norway didn’t pass the exams
and who come to Finland had to learn Finish… so Romania was my amazing choice
and I am going to explain.
The beginning
Brasov is
my beautiful Erasmus city. I have been living here since th 25th of
September. I have to recognize the beginning it wasn’t easy. First, I had to
travel 10 hours until I arrived to Brasov from Madrid and then I had to find a
house where I can live because the university dormitory room didn’t like me (no
kitchen, the bathroom dirty and share ). But
one week after everything was fine: I found a house and I met friends J
Erasmus people
I have been living with Spanish, Turkish,
French and Italian… I have no words to describe it. Before I was living one
summer with 3 German girls, and the experience was incredible too… Share is living! ( I have tried to translate
from Spanish, I am not sure if it is correct ). I have learnt a lot of thinks
living with foreign, for example Turkish doesn’t live in the dessert and
neither they speak Arabic, French are open minded instead of unfriendly people
or German love parties such as Spanish. So if you are a future Erasmus, please
try to meet and live with friends from other country, because if not, it will
be a mistake !!! But I have to say something: be careful when you choose people
who you are going to live with. I have finish tired of party at my
places and of having problems with the house’ s owner.
A lot of people from my Erasmus ( in special
Spanish) has been always with people from their own country, so they haven’t improved
their English, and that’s a shame, because if you want improve your mother
language , stay at home !! Erasmus is for open your mind thought meeting
different people ;)
Shy ?
Forget that word !! Everybody is in the same situation than you: a new girl, boy
in a new country , who wants meet friends, have fun, go to party , travel and
learn languages
Romania and
Romanian
I would
like to talk about Romania and Romanian people. Kind, polite, grateful, fair …
people! (except the ladies of my faculty office). As a general Europe ( I don’t
know about the rest of the world) has a bad thought about Romanian, but I have
seen and it is not like this. I have
learnt that if you want to talk about something or somebody you have to test
and see yourself.
The taxi driver,
your professor, the supermarket employees… everybody know English ! If you know
English, you will not have any problem to express yourself.
1 euro =
4,5 lei . For us, the European everything is cheap in Romania : catch a taxi
during 15 minutes 3 euros, 0,4 ml of beer 0.7 euros, having a meal in a
restaurant 5 euros, bus tickets 0,33 euros, the rent plus bills
between 120 – 160 euros, copy a book and
print it 3 euros… At minimum are you
going to spend around 200 euros per month.
Studies &
University
Dear
Nicusor and Dear Petru are my Erasmus
nursing coordinators in Brasov. They have helped me a lot during all year. The first day , they asked me where I wanted
to do my internships, and from then I have been working in a different
hospitals an different services. The service that I like the most is the
Emergency Hospital.
My nurses
in the Emergency Hospital are completely bilingual in English, so they can
explain all and I can understand . They
are a really good nursing teachers and I so glad for that because I am learning
a lot of new things.
All my
program has been in English: internships and exams . About others degrees I
don’t have any idea, because each degree has a different coordinator. Your
university, as mine did, has to give to you the email of your Erasmus
coordinator to talk about the learning agreement
Trips
In my view,
the trips have been the most interested part of Erasmus. I have had the
pleasure to travel around: Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Bulgary, Turkey, Israel
and United Arab Emirates !
I didn’t
expect this trips before coming to Romania. During this year my friends and I
were founding offers. For example the flight company Wizz Air has a really good
offers and because of that I went for instance to Israel or to UAE. From Spain
the flight tickets are around 400 euros, and from Romania it was only 80 euros
( go and come back).
On the
other hand, Romania has a lot of trains and buses to the countries around ( and
so cheap). There are buses and trains to: Hungary, Serbia, Greece, Moldavia,
Austria, Turkey …
I have been
so lucky and I have stayed 3 times in Turkey (my favourite country). I have
gone always with Turkish friends and this is the best way. If you have this
possibility, don’t loose it please. Turkish people are the best friends that
you can have!!!!
The future
I don’t
know if it is because I so young (I am
20 years old), but I think that during this year I have grown at the end ! In
my view, nowadays I am an adult person, not a child anymore.
During this
year I have learnt a lot. My life from September until now has been pure
adrenaline, any day has been the same. Nowadays I feel more free, I got away from the comfort of my home in
Madrid and I have done Brasov my new home, so I know that if I go to another
place, I can do it my home as I did with Brasov. And the most important thing,
now I am able to live with people who
doesn’t know Spanish .
Nowadays,
30th of May, my Erasmus has almost finished, tomorrow I am coming
back. I have to leave before than my friends because I have got a job in UK and
I will start on June, but as I has just told you, the rest of people is going
to stay until the end of June- middle of July L
Right now I
have mixed feelings. Brasov is right now my home and I feel pity: one part of
me wants to still be in Romania, but I really need to go. I want to start right
now my summer job in UK and improve my English in order to get a certificate, I
want to finish my degree and begin the Master , I want to work as a nurse… So I want a lot of things and I have to
leave, not only Romania also Spain
I have discovered that
learning languages is the most important thing in your instruction. All
my life my parents have been saying to me study French, and I had studied but
when I could , I left. Now, because I have applied for Erasmus placement in
France, I am studying again French and I feel so guilty for being so stupid for
having stopped my French classes. If you are Erasmus, you will realize that
English is not enough, and probably you
will start to learn a new foreign
language.
This is the
best sentence to summary up my Erasmus
year :
Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever
so on the road
So please
if you are thinking about doing an Erasmus year, do it !! And if you haven’t
never thought about, start to thinking about
it .
It is a
unique experience that everybody should have.
I hope that
this information has been useful for you.
Good luck
future Erasmus ! J''
After I started to know general spanish characteristic I decided that you are not spanish :)
thank you for your beautifull comments the calmest spanish I have ever met

''Turkey is one of the most amazing countries
I´ve ever had the chance to travel to. Thanks to Ilyas I could spend my birthday in one of the
most stunning places in the world, Kapadokya in where I ate wonderful dishes,
ride a ATV across the desert, and I did a
one day trip to the underground city.
In Turkey I´ve visited some other awesome
places like Pamukkale, Izmir, Istambul, Cesme, Alicati, Siringe, Denizli, Konya
and Ankara.
After this amazing trip I can say that in
Turkye there are unbelieveable places, so tasted dishes and friendly people.
All together made this unforguettable trip so unique.''
